On this day - April 18th 1971 - Scottish Actor David Tennant was born 

David Tennant is an Scottish Actor who was born in Bathgate on this day in 1971. His most famous roles include the 10th Doctor in Doctor Who, Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, Barty Crouch, Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Alec Hardy in Broadchurch. He has also worked as an voice actor and on stage for several plays. His acting debut was for a anti-smoking film in Glasgow at the age of 16. He was offered the role as Doctor Who in 2005, and Tennant has describe this role as his childhood dream. Tennant is married to Georgia Moffett (Actress from the Doctors daughter) and they have four children together. David Tennant was awarded the Special Recognition award at the British National Television Award in January 2015. He is currently filming "Mad to be Normal" and the filming for the third season of Tennant as Alec Hardy in "Broadchurch" will start this summer.

March 25th

On this day - March 25th 1306 - Robert the Bruce became King of the Scots 

Robert the Bruce reigned from 1306 and until his death in 1329. He was crowned as the king after inheriting the right to the throne from his dad, and after killing Cromyn, his greatest opponent. He was known as a warrior and led Scotland in its first War of independence, where his troops won several fights against the English. Robert the Bruce's fighting led to the Treaty of Edinburgh-Northampton in 1328, where Scotland gained independence.
Robert the Bruce is remembered as a national hero in Scotland today. He supported William Wallace in his fights against England, and he is therefore portrayed in the movie Braveheart.

March 13th

On this day - March 13th 1996 - The Dunblane School massacre, one of the deadliest mass murders in the UK

Sixteen elementary school children and one teacher were shot and killed in the Dunblane Massacre in Scotland. The shooter, 43 year old Thomas Hamilton, drove to the school in the morning on march 13th. He thereafter cut the wires to the telephone at the school before endring the school building. When he was about to be confronted by the PE teacher in the gymnasium started he shooting at random. He injured 32 people, killed sixteen 5-6 years old children and one teacher before he took his own life.

Two new gun laws were passed in the UK after the massacre which effectively ended the ownership of private handheld guns illegal in the UK.

On this day - 23 January 1570 - First assassination with a firearm

James Sturt, 1st earl of Morray, was an illegitimate son of James V and the regent of Scotland was the first person to be assassinated by a firearm. The assassin was a follower of Mary, Queen of Scots and James Stuart was assassinated after trying to organize a response to the Marys followers. James Stuart was assassinated in Linlithgow, Scotland, by James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh and Woodhouselee. James Hamilton fired at James Stuart from behind a window with a carbine, in a well planed assassination, and mortally wounded him. James Stuart of Morray was buried in February 1570.
