November 4th

On this day – November 4, 2008 – Barack Obama was elected president of the USA

President Barack Obama is the 44th president of the United States of America and, more importantly, he is the first African American president. President Obama is a graduate of Colombia University and Harvard Law School. In his time at Harvard he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. His campaign for the 2008 election was a popular campaign with slogans as "vote for change" and "vote for hope". His campaign led to a victory where he received 365 electoral votes while his opponent John McCain only got 173 electoral votes. In 2012 president Obama was reelected with 332 electoral votes which exceeded the 270 he needed to be reelected. Under president Obama unemployment has gone down, but economic deficit and dept has increased. President Obama has also worked hard on LGBT rights and has repealed the "Don't ask don't tell" policy and strengthened LGBT rights in general. He is also known for "Obama-Care" which implemented affordable health care.
In 2009 president Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
