November 6th

On this day – 6th November 1962 – UN passed an anti-apartheid resolution


The 1761 resolution, which was passed by the UN General Assembly in 1962, condemned South Africa’s apartheid policies.  Apartheid means “Apart-hood” and was a system of racial segregation in South Africa. The resolution called for all UN member-states to end their military and economic relations with South Africa until their apartheid policies were abolished. The apartheid policies was first implemented in 1948 and lasted in South Africa until 1994.
