"Mary had a little lamb" is a nursery rhyme written by Sarah Josepha Hale. It was published by Marsh, Capen & Lyon which was a Boston based publishing firm. The rhyme is inspired by an actual story where a young girl named Mary actually brought a lamb to school. The rhyme is perhaps best known for being the first ting recorded on Edison's phonograph in 1877. Several musical versions of the nursery rhyme has since been created by musicians of all kind of generes. Paul McCartney might be the creator of the best known of those versions of the poem. Othervise it is probably Lowell Masons version from 1830 that is the best known, and probably the song you will have stuck on your mind after reading this.

Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day,
Which was against the rule,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about,
Till Mary did appear.

"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry.
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,"
The teacher did reply.

The import of new slaves had also slowed down significantly due to Brazil being the last western country to abolish slavery. Although slavery became prohibited with this law, did the life of the slaves not improve much as most of them were without any kind of education or political representation. On this day - May 11th 1997 - Deep Blue beats Garry Kasparov

On this day Deep Blue won the deciding rematch against Garry Kasparov in chess. This was not the first match Kasparov had against Deep Blue, he won the match 4-2 in 1996. With the win Deep Blue marked the start of Artificial Intelligence being taken serious since it had "mastered" chess. Some would argue that Kasparov did not play up to his usual standard and others argued that chess was not complex enough. It started the Go challenge for AI to beat the best Go players. Googles AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol 4-1 in March 2016. We congratulate all the researchers in their effort to make better artificial intelligences and hope they don't end up making Skynet.
