On this day - May 28th 2011 - The Maltese divorce referendum 

In 2011 was a referendum held in Malta on the question if the country should allow divorces. At the time was Malta one out of only three countries in the world that didn't allow divorces. The other two was the Philippines and the Vatican State. 53 percent of the participants voted Yes to changing the law, and later in 2011 was a law implemented and divorces became legal. Over 46 percent voted No to allowing divorces.
