On this day – 29th of September 1954 – CERN was
established
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research was
established on this day in 19954. The acronym CERN comes from the French sentence
“Conseil Européen pour la Recherche
Nucléaire”. CERN has 22 member countries today, but it started out with
12 countries in 1954. Israel is today the only non-European members in CERN. One of CERNs most known projects is the Large
Hadron Collider
